GPS Mission Facebook widget

November 30, 2008

This week we have released a Facebook widget for GPS Mission. If you are in Facebook, you should give it a try. Click on the headline of this news article to go to the widget in facebook.

With this widget you can post to the Facebook newsfeed from your GPS-enabled phone, live – while you are playing GPS Mission outside – including your waymark pictures and positions!
There’s also a little display for your Facebook profile where people can see your last picture and position (if you published them) – also with a link to the map.
It’s easy to install. Just go to the widget and click "GO TO APPLICATION". – Follow the instructions. During the installation you will need your GPS Mission account name and password. After installing the widget, you are all set and can start publishing waymarks to Facebook from your mobile device.

If you live in England, turn on your GPS phone and check if there is a new mission in your area!

We have added over fifty new missions – at the end of each one you can get the coat of arms of a county or a town as a trophy (see picture). This is an example in Exeter.
That’s over fifty new trophies available in England only. For browsing through the new missions, try this search or go to the mission browser. The coat of arms missions are visible if you zoom in enough.
And don't mention the football match yesterday... Have fun!

The October round of the Mission of the Month competition has ended. We have started to look through all of the interesting missions you submitted. Our independent jury will pick the winner of a brand new Nokia N82 soon.

The next round of our competition will end on December 7. Again, we will be giving away a N82 GPS phone for the creator of the best mission. We have improved our mission designer by adding two different types of maps (Google Maps and Open Street Map) – there is no excuse any more for not designing an exciting mission yourself!

For more details check out the mission award page.

Our jury has cast the vote and the results are in. The first and second place go to the Netherlands: the best mission of September is “Amsterdam Eastern Docklands” by our user Paul Meijer (internethPaul). It features a lot of bridges, water and historic as well as modern architecture.

Paul wins an Nokia N82 for this great mission! Among the reasons this was chosen certainly were the great location, great selection of pictures as well as interesting texts and the walking route.
The second place goes to “Goffert Park, Nijmegen” by our well-known community member Ryoushi. The third place goes to “Pray that you can solve this” in Idaho – for its unconventional and funny approach (complete with hilarious pictures) by MommasPrecious.

All of the three top contestants receive 2000 Gold!

Even though our winners are this time more or less straight-forward walks at interesting places, everybody is encouraged to enter more extravagant missions. We had a few crime & fantasy stories, which unfortunately didn’t make it this time. May be in the next round? The best mission competition goes on: the current round will end on Sunday, the 9th of November. So keep on entering great missions!

Check out the mission design award page for more info on the competition.
